NikonRumors has just posted that they do not believe the Nikon D7100 will be out next week.

I have been getting some recent activity from Hong Kong to this post. Is this because Nikon is now manufacturing the Nikon D7100 or D8000? Who knows… if you do know something let us all know by leaving a comment below!

Important!

New: Nikon D7100 will likely shoot 8 fps, and will likely be announced in January, February of 2013! The replacement for the Nikon D7000 could possibly be called the Nikon  D7100, or even the Nikon D8000?

The Nikon D5200 will be announced tomorrow with specs of:

24MP DX-format CMOS sensor
EXPEED 3 processor (same as in the D3200)
ISO range: 100-6,400 (expandable up to 25,600, D3200 could go only up to 12,800)
2,016 pixel RGB metering sensor (same as the D600, the D3200 had a 420 pixel RGB sensor)
Continuous shooting speed: 5fps (the D3200 could do only 4 fps)

Expect a D7100 to have the same specs, but with a weather sealed body and more AF points.

The D7100 should be announced soon likely before the 2013 CES show (January 8-11, 2012)!

I do not expect to see a Nikon D7000 successor aka D7100 announced until September 2012 and likely released in August. Maybe later. Update July 23 2012

With recent rumors telling us that there will be a Nikon D3200 with a Sony 24 Megapixel sensor with upgraded video I wonder what the D7100/D7200 will have. Will it have the same 24 MP sensor with a better processor? Will the D7100/D7200 have 14 bit processing while the D3100 will only have 12 bit? Or will the only difference between the D7100/D7200 and a D3100 would be more af points, weather sealing, higher iso, higher shutter speed?

http://www.dxomark.com: Sensor comparison between New Sony 24 MP vs Sony 16 MP in D7000

As you can see the new Sony 24 MP sensor is not much of an upgrade when compared to the D7000 so I would imagine this 24 MP sensor will be in the D3200 with a newer 16 MP sensor with better low-light ISO coming to a D7100/D7200. * The Sony NEX-7 sensor is rumored to be in the new D3200 or D7100/D7200.

The rumor mill is spinning and everyone is hoping for a Nikon D7100/D7200. I do not see any major upgrades from the D7000, but to others they maybe enough for them to upgrade.

*Update July  012

With the Nikon D3200 Nikon’s cheapest camera having an overall better sensor then the D7000 Nikon will have to release a D7100 soon to even out their lineup.

Everyone has loved the fully articulated screen on the D5100 and many were disappointed by the lack of the articulated screen on the D7000.

*Update July 2012

Some believe that an articulated screen would be more of an annoyance then a welcoming addition to the D7100. As pointed out by one of our readers an articulated screen would be more fragile and would easily break off.

2K video is not far from 1080P full HD video. Full HD is 1920×1080 while 2K video is 2048×1080. Do we really need 30 fps in our DSLR? When shooting in 24p you get better quality video. You get the artistic film like style with 24p. If you need to convert to PAL 24P will transfer way better to PAL then 30fps. So I am 100% sure Nikon went with 24P over 30P because it is better. In reality the difference between 24p and 30 fps is 24(Film) and 30 fps (Video)! The D7100 will also likely see uncompressed video from its hdmi port just like the D800. The D7100 will likely have the option to output video to an external screen for professional use.

Will the new D7100 have the full frame sensor from the D4?

D7100 AF points?

Does the D7100/D7200 really need more AF (auto focus points) that I am not a hundred percent sure on. What do you think?

Do these specs look about right for the upcoming D7100/D7200 or what do you think will be in this new release?

Update: Maybe even WIFI. So you could transfer photos to your computer or even Facebook using WIFI, but that sounds to consumer-level like. Though probably more in line with what the D4 offers with its remote control?

USB 3.0 or even Thunderbolt replacing USB 2.0?

I would hope that Nikon gives us both options USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt. Both technologies are fast ,but not everyone has thunderbolt and not everyone has USB 3.0.

I would expect the D7100/D7200 to have the new slimmer red part:

Nikon modifies Sony's sensors anyways... And, they have some of their own sensors. Wow. Probably a Canon user who believes in brand superiority.

USB 3.0 and thunderbolt wouldn't make much of a difference unless the memory cards recieve a bump in speed or unless people buy those sandisk exteme or extreme pro cards.

You are right, but I do believe most consumers that can afford to buy a D7000 or D7100 will likely buy a sandisk exteme or extreme pro card.

Good post overall, however, I feel a few things need to be addressed. You talk about the possible inclusion of an articulated screen on the d7100, and how everyone loved the screen of the d5100. I feel it would actually be a step backwards in many ways. First of all, the articulated screen would totally change the button layout of the camera, making it more difficult for users who have previously used older nikons to adapt. The other problem for me is the durability that might be reduced by the inclusion of such a screen. The articulation leaves the screen vulnerable to be snapped off, which is a risk I would rather not take. The other thing that bugs me is the megapixel race. The industry is reaching a point that megapixel mean less and less, because there is honestly very little difference between a 18 megapixel camera or a 24 megapixel camera. I'd rather nikon focus their time and effort on things such as autofocus and ISO, as well as continuing to improve DSLR video quality. Well, those are my thoughts, and I hope the D7100 comes out soon, I'm getting anxious. As a sidenote, I'm a fifteen year old kid, so don't take me too seriously :)

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and reply. I would like to see the video quality increase, I believe Nikon could get into the cinematography or even broadcast markets as the D7000 is not bad. I do agree that the articulated screen would be a hindrance to durability ,but almost everyone wants one now. I am sure the D7100 will be out soon enough. :)

The D7100 could come out at any time, but in reality the D7000 is still great.

Dude!! I'm thinking 60fps video in 1080p with aperture control coz D3200 already has 24MP sensor with limited video.. and umm.. like GPS should be there.. and those 24 focus points need to spread a little i guess.. So about 9fps continuous.. I think what will be missing will be the 14 bit NEF.. battery will give lesser number of shots.. ISO should be bit less.. but I'd like to know one thing do people need over 12800 ISO.. BUT   this camera will not come out until Canon Shows its card.. They can do a quick changeover on the firmware end to see some of the features of magic-lantern on audio end..  RATIONALE: Nikon will not take out this camera if Canon doesn't take out its matching D7100.. they'll wait till mid November 2012 for the Christmas thing.!!

Dude 14 bit NEF is a standard feature and Canon has not launched 24mp DSLR yet.

I think Nikon will launch a new series along the fixed mirror line-up similar to Sony's DSLR.. chances of D7100 along this line could also appear.. Since Nikon D7000 is too good of a camera, this new line would be a prized one for avid photographers like me..

Too many Nikon Rumors. I hope the D400 is coming out as a mini D4, otherwise I am uninterested in any other rumors for the time.

Full frame with entry level dslr price, steal of the century! Come on, D7100!

JustinWaloshin

That would be nice.  Though I do not believe $1200 is entry level price. $500 to $600 is entry level.
