I have been getting some recent activity from Hong Kong to this post. Is this because Nikon is now manufacturing the Nikon D7100 or D8000? Who knows… if you do know something let us all know by leaving a comment below!
The Nikon D5200 will be announced tomorrow with specs of:
24MP DX-format CMOS sensor
EXPEED 3 processor (same as in the D3200)
ISO range: 100-6,400 (expandable up to 25,600, D3200 could go only up to 12,800)
2,016 pixel RGB metering sensor (same as the D600, the D3200 had a 420 pixel RGB sensor)
Continuous shooting speed: 5fps (the D3200 could do only 4 fps)
Expect a D7100 to have the same specs, but with a weather sealed body and more AF points.
The D7100 should be announced soon likely before the 2013 CES show (January 8-11, 2012)!
I do not expect to see a Nikon D7000 successor aka D7100 announced until September 2012 and likely released in August. Maybe later. Update July 23 2012
With recent rumors telling us that there will be a Nikon D3200 with a Sony 24 Megapixel sensor with upgraded video I wonder what the D7100/D7200 will have. Will it have the same 24 MP sensor with a better processor? Will the D7100/D7200 have 14 bit processing while the D3100 will only have 12 bit? Or will the only difference between the D7100/D7200 and a D3100 would be more af points, weather sealing, higher iso, higher shutter speed?
As you can see the new Sony 24 MP sensor is not much of an upgrade when compared to the D7000 so I would imagine this 24 MP sensor will be in the D3200 with a newer 16 MP sensor with better low-light ISO coming to a D7100/D7200. * The Sony NEX-7 sensor is rumored to be in the new D3200 or D7100/D7200.
The rumor mill is spinning and everyone is hoping for a Nikon D7100/D7200. I do not see any major upgrades from the D7000, but to others they maybe enough for them to upgrade.
*Update July 012
With the Nikon D3200 Nikon’s cheapest camera having an overall better sensor then the D7000 Nikon will have to release a D7100 soon to even out their lineup.
Everyone has loved the fully articulated screen on the D5100 and many were disappointed by the lack of the articulated screen on the D7000.
*Update July 2012
Some believe that an articulated screen would be more of an annoyance then a welcoming addition to the D7100. As pointed out by one of our readers an articulated screen would be more fragile and would easily break off.
Will the new D7100 have the full frame sensor from the D4?
Does the D7100/D7200 really need more AF (auto focus points) that I am not a hundred percent sure on. What do you think?
Do these specs look about right for the upcoming D7100/D7200 or what do you think will be in this new release?
Update: Maybe even WIFI. So you could transfer photos to your computer or even Facebook using WIFI, but that sounds to consumer-level like. Though probably more in line with what the D4 offers with its remote control?
USB 3.0 or even Thunderbolt replacing USB 2.0?
I would hope that Nikon gives us both options USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt. Both technologies are fast ,but not everyone has thunderbolt and not everyone has USB 3.0.
I would expect the D7100/D7200 to have the new slimmer red part:
